Last night we saw Jefferson Mays in I Am My Own Wife, the Tony Award winning one-man play by Doug Wright. The play tells the story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who survived persecution under the Nazis and the East German Stasi. Mays plays Charlotte, a young American who is obsessed with her story, and literally dozens of other characters. I found both the story and the performance very moving.
It's playing at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco through Sunday.
Yesterday, I decided to take the bus home from BART. There were only three of us on the bus, then one got off, leaving only me and an attractive, friendly looking woman. I was reading an eBook on my PowerBook. Glancing up, I noticed that she was smiling at me. She asked, "Excuse me, but do you work for Technorati?" "Yes, I said, but how did you know?" "I noticed the sticker on your PowerBook." "My name's Adam, what's yours?" "Cameo Wood."
Turns out we both frequent Joi's IRC channel. I know her by her nick there, which is Cameo (less cryptic than mine, which is Earthman). I had actually checked out her site that very afternoon.
We went to KFOG's Kaboom tonight. It was fun to be out with the crowds, and the fireworks were spectacular. There are some greatpictures up on Flickr. Nice shots, Matt! I shot a few little videos, too.
What a pleasant surprise to find a natural foods store and restaurant, complete with free WiFi, in downtown Laramie. Organic ingredients, new age paraphernalia, folks reading their Utne Readers and Yoga Journals while sipping their cappuccinos.
