Trailing Spouse

Joan is on a business trip on the East Coast, and I decided to join her for the end of it. I met her in New York on Thursday, where she had a terrific poetry reading at the Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village. We once again enjoyed the gracious hospitality of our friend Graham Arader.

Yesterday we drove down to Washington, where she's attending the annual meeting of the Women's National Book Association. We're staying near DuPont Circle. I haven't been to Washington in many years, and I was born here after all, so it's great to be back. This morning I slept late, had a nice breakfast out, and found a nice new book to read.

It's not been much of a vacation for me - the usual flurry of emails and phone calls, plus a few meetings with potential partners. But I like the travel, and Joan certainly has trailed after me on many a trip.

P.S. Thanks to Suw for taking care of Nora!
